Galatasaray Boss Okan Buruk Provides Update on Osimhen Ahead of Frankfurt Clash
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has given an update on striker Victor Osimhen’s fitness as the Turkish champions prepare for their crucial UEFA Champions League away tie against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
Osimhen, 26, is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury sustained while on international duty with Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier against Rwanda last weekend.
The Super Eagles star was left out of Galatasaray’s squad in their 2-0 league victory over Eyüpspor on Saturday, where goals from Mauro Icardi and Yunus Akgün secured three points at Eyüp Stadyumu.
Speaking after the win, Buruk admitted Osimhen’s availability will depend on how he responds in the coming days.
“Osimhen’s condition will be clear in a few days,” the manager said (via habersarikirmizi).
“We think he will play [against Eyüpspor]. He has pain, we will see if he can play with it [against Frankfurt].”
Opinion: Galatasaray Must Balance Caution with Ambition
Osimhen’s situation places Galatasaray in a delicate position. On one hand, his explosive pace and lethal finishing are exactly what the team will need in a high-stakes Champions League tie against Frankfurt. On the other hand, ankle ligament injuries are notoriously tricky—rush him back too soon, and Galatasaray could risk losing their marquee striker for much longer.
The presence of Mauro Icardi, who is in fine form, does offer some cushion. But Osimhen is not just another forward—his energy, physicality, and ability to stretch defenses can be the difference between a cagey European night and a breakthrough performance.
If Buruk can manage Osimhen wisely, even using him as an impact substitute, Galatasaray could get the best of both worlds: a chance to keep their star sharp for Europe without aggravating the injury.
For fans, the hope will be clear: seeing Osimhen leading the line on a Champions League night, where he belongs. But patience—and smart medical management—might be Galatasaray’s biggest weapon before the Frankfurt clash.
