Galatasaray Coach Okan Buruk Provides Positive Update on Victor Osimhen’s Injury

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has given fans a glimmer of hope regarding striker Victor Osimhen’s fitness ahead of their upcoming clashes with Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig and Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian forward has been sidelined with an ankle injury sustained during the September international break, when he featured for the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. Since then, Osimhen has missed several matches, leaving Galatasaray without one of their most lethal attacking options.

Speaking to reporters, Buruk provided a cautiously optimistic update:

“Osimhen was checked today. He also took part in yesterday’s training. He still has minor aches and pains. If he can tolerate these and play, we hope he will be with the team in the next match. We hope he will be in the squad for the Alanya match. We will try him out in training. We also expect him to be on the pitch for the Liverpool match,” Buruk said (via Habersarikirmizi).

Opinion: Why Osimhen’s Return Could Be a Game-Changer

For Galatasaray, the timing of Osimhen’s potential return could not be more crucial. The clash with Liverpool in the Champions League is not just another group-stage fixture—it’s a test of the Turkish champions’ European ambitions. Without their talisman, Galatasaray lose not just goals, but also the confidence and fear factor Osimhen naturally brings to the pitch.

The Nigerian striker thrives on the big stage, and his ability to bully defenses with power, pace, and relentless pressing could be exactly what Buruk’s side needs to unsettle a well-drilled Liverpool team. Of course, the risk here lies in rushing him back too soon. Ankle injuries are notoriously tricky, and overexertion could lead to a longer spell on the sidelines.

Still, the sight of Osimhen training again is a massive boost for the club and its supporters. Even at 70-80% fitness, his presence alone forces opponents to adjust their game plans. Against Alanyaspor, Buruk might ease him in carefully, but against Liverpool, Galatasaray will want their star man firing from the first whistle.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to balance—protecting Osimhen’s long-term fitness while recognizing that his short-term impact could define the trajectory of Galatasaray’s season.
