Nigerian Man in Tears After Catching Girlfriend of 5 Years Cheating With His Friend
A young Nigerian man has shared his heartbreak online after discovering that his girlfriend of five years was cheating on him with his close friend.
The man, who revealed he had been sponsoring his partner’s education and catering for her needs, lamented bitterly in a video where he tearfully narrated his ordeal.
According to him, he had invested heavily in the relationship, paying her school fees up to her 300-level in the university, in addition to footing his house rent and daily expenses.
“My 5 years relationship just ended like that. This girl na person wey I dey send go school. 3 years in the university, 300 Level. I caught her cheating in my own house I’m using my own money to pay my house rent. My lifetime investment, all my millions na on top this girl head…,” he said.
The revelation sparked widespread reactions online, with many netizens offering mixed perspectives.
@THE_CRAFT3R advised him to heal and move on:
“Young man, get up and wipe your tears… Stop fooling yourself online and get a grip man. Trust me, you will be fine.”@EzeChinweik shared a different take, saying:
“Whatever you spent on her came out of love, empathy and care. They weren’t meant to be returned or used as leverage.”@zemehe_ added:
“Stop crying and let it go bro. She doesn’t deserve you. If you take her back, she’ll only hurt you again.”
Opinion: When Love Feels Like an Investment
This young man’s story is a painful reminder of how fragile relationships can be, especially when one partner carries most of the financial and emotional weight. While his pain is valid, there’s also an important lesson for everyone: love should never be treated as a business investment.
Supporting a partner through school or in life is an act of love and generosity, not a guaranteed down payment on loyalty. Heartbreaks hurt more when we count sacrifices as "losses," but in truth, they were acts of kindness at the time.
Perhaps the bigger picture here is growth. This experience, though devastating, is not the end of his story but the beginning of wiser choices. As many commenters noted, healing and moving forward is the best revenge.
At the end of the day, true love is not bought—it is shared. And when it isn’t reciprocated, it’s better to cut your losses and protect your peace.
