Nigerian Striker Simy Nwankwo Joins Saudi Side Al Orobah
Nigerian forward Simy Nwankwo has completed a move to Saudi Arabian club Al Orobah, according to TalkTalk Nigeria.
The 33-year-old left Italian side Salernitana this summer after the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to a four-year spell in Serie B.
Nwankwo’s most memorable campaign came in the 2019/20 season, when he bagged 20 goals for Crotone, finishing as Serie B’s top scorer and helping the club earn promotion to Serie A.
He also featured for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, making him one of the few Nigerian strikers with both European pedigree and international tournament experience.
Now in Saudi Arabia, Nwankwo will look to use his wealth of experience to help Al Orobah secure promotion to the Saudi Professional Football League.
Opinion: A Bold Step for Simy and a Statement for Saudi Football
Simy’s move to Saudi Arabia might raise eyebrows for those who remember his dazzling goal-scoring exploits in Italy. At 33, many might expect him to wind down his career quietly, but joining Al Orobah signals a different story—a player still eager to compete and make an impact.
For Al Orobah, this signing is not just about goals; it’s about experience, leadership, and ambition. Simy has been tested in Europe’s top leagues and on the world stage. Bringing that mentality into a developing Saudi side could be the difference between mid-table obscurity and a promotion push.
Beyond football, this transfer mirrors the growing trend of Saudi clubs investing in not just global superstars but also proven professionals who can elevate the competitive standard of their leagues.
For Nigerian fans, Simy’s journey is also inspiring. From World Cup appearances to Serie A golden seasons, and now to Saudi Arabia, his career reflects resilience, adaptability, and the courage to embrace new challenges.
If he can rediscover even a fraction of his Crotone form, Al Orobah’s dream of playing in the Saudi Pro League could soon be a reality.
