Bayern Suffer Injury Setback Ahead of Chelsea Clash

Bayern Suffer Injury Setback Ahead of Chelsea Clash

Bayern Munich have been dealt a fresh injury blow just days before their crunch UEFA Champions League tie with Chelsea on Wednesday.

According to Bild, left-back Raphael Guerreiro will miss the match after picking up an abdominal muscle injury in Bayern’s 5-0 Bundesliga victory over Hamburg last weekend.

The Portuguese international now joins Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito on the sidelines, leaving Bayern boss Vincent Kompany with limited defensive options.

The club confirmed the setback on their official website on Monday, describing Guerreiro’s issue as a “minor injury,” though serious enough to keep him out of the midweek European showdown.

Kompany may now have to deploy Josip Stanisic, a natural right-back, on the left against the London side.

Opinion

This couldn’t have come at a worse time for Bayern. Facing Chelsea in the Champions League demands not just tactical brilliance but also a solid backline—and right now, Bayern’s left flank looks dangerously thin.

Still, history reminds us that Bayern often thrive in adversity. Their squad depth is enviable, and Kompany’s decision-making on Wednesday will reveal whether Bayern can adapt creatively or if Chelsea can exploit this sudden weakness.

On the flip side, Chelsea, who themselves have struggled with consistency, may see this as an opening to press aggressively down Bayern’s left. Yet, banking on Bayern’s injuries alone could be a mistake—the Bavarians have a knack for turning “crisis” into motivation.

✨ One thing is certain: this fixture just became even more intriguing. For Bayern, it’s about proving resilience. For Chelsea, it’s about seizing opportunity. For the fans, it’s about expecting fireworks under the Champions League lights.
