Ola of Lagos Reveals He Lost ₦18m in Costly Business Deal, Says It Was Due to “Being Too Nice”

Popular content creator, Ola of Lagos, has disclosed that he once lost a staggering ₦18 million after a business deal went wrong — a mistake he attributes to being overly generous.

Speaking about the experience, Ola explained that his desire to help and show kindness backfired, leaving him saddled with a debt he had to personally cover.

“I once did a business, not really out of pity but out of being too nice, and it left me with an ₦18 million debt. Imagine having to pull ₦18 million from your pocket to settle a debt you shouldn’t have incurred in the first place. It makes no sense,” he said.

According to him, the bitter experience has reshaped the way he approaches business and generosity.

“That experience made me decide never to be too nice again. Of course, I still show love to the streets, but now I do it with sense.”

Opinion:
Ola’s story is a powerful reminder that in business, kindness without caution can be costly. Generosity is admirable, but when it clouds judgment, it often opens the door to exploitation and regret. His ₦18 million loss isn’t just a financial hit — it’s a lesson in the importance of balance.

In Nigeria’s fast-paced hustle culture, many young entrepreneurs are eager to help others rise, but Ola’s experience highlights why “helping with sense,” as he put it, is critical. The truth is, the business world rewards fairness and strategy, not blind kindness.

Yet, his reflection also carries hope. Rather than turning bitter, Ola insists he will continue to “show love to the streets,” only this time with wisdom. That balance — compassion with boundaries — might just be the real key to lasting success.

For fans and fellow entrepreneurs, his story is both a cautionary tale and an encouragement: kindness is beautiful, but it must always walk hand in hand with wisdom.
