“I Am Alive and Well” – Ebenezer Obey Debunks Death Rumours

“I Am Alive and Well” – Ebenezer Obey Debunks Death Rumours

Veteran juju music icon, Ebenezer Obey, has dismissed viral reports alleging he suffered a stroke and passed away.

The legendary singer, who is currently in London, appeared in a video shared on his Instagram page, seated beside his two sons as they sang to reassure fans of his good health.

In the clip, he firmly described the rumours as “lies from the kingdom of darkness”, emphasizing that he is alive and strong.

“Stop the rumours!!!! Ebenezer Obey is alive and well,” the caption read.

Obey further explained that he had only travelled to the UK for personal care and expressed his frustration over the fake reports, which even circulated fabricated images of coffins.

This is not the first time the 82-year-old legend has been a victim of false death claims — similar rumours trended in 2020 and again earlier this year.

Reaffirming his faith, he said: “Everything they have said is nothing but lies that came from the kingdom of darkness. I am alive, I am alive, says the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you very much. I don’t have a stroke. I came to London to look after myself.”

Opinion: Why Do We “Kill” Legends Before Their Time?

Ebenezer Obey’s case raises a worrying trend that has plagued the digital age — the speed at which fake news spreads, especially about the death of public figures. Sadly, Obey is not alone. From actors to musicians and even political leaders, false death rumours have become a common — and often cruel — online gimmick.

For fans, these reports stir unnecessary fear and grief. For the personalities themselves, it brings stress and a sense of violation. Beyond the emotional toll, such rumours can also dent reputations and overshadow the legacies of living legends.

But on a lighter note, Obey’s graceful response shows resilience. Instead of reacting with anger, he used his music and faith to reassure fans, reminding us why he remains one of Nigeria’s most respected icons.

Perhaps the lesson here is simple: we must double-check before we share. Social media thrives on speed, but truth should never be sacrificed for clicks.

After all, legends like Ebenezer Obey deserve to be celebrated while they are alive — not mourned prematurely.
