NNL Schedules Mid-Season Retreat to Review First-Round Performances

NNL Schedules Mid-Season Retreat to Review First-Round Performances

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has concluded plans to hold a mid-season retreat for all participating clubs as part of efforts to further strengthen the league and improve its overall standard.

The three-day retreat is scheduled to take place from Friday, January 23 to Sunday, January 25, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, confirmed the development in a statement made available to TalkTalk Nigeria.

According to Alanana, the retreat is designed to critically review the events and matches from the first round of the season, while also equipping stakeholders with the tools needed to drive the league forward.
“The conference in Ikenne is a capacity-building one aimed at strengthening the league and making it better,” Alanana said.
“With the accolades we are getting and the corporate support that is coming our way, we can’t afford to rest on our oars. That is why we are heading to the boardroom for a mid-season retreat. We would be taking a holistic look at the journey so far and see areas that call for improvement.”

The retreat is expected to bring together club officials, administrators and key stakeholders to discuss officiating, logistics, club management and overall league development — areas that often define the success of domestic competitions.

From an observer’s perspective, this move signals a refreshing level of intentional leadership within the NNL. Rather than waiting until the end of the season to address challenges, the league is choosing reflection, evaluation and learning in the middle of the campaign. This proactive approach could help reduce recurring issues and improve the quality of competition in the second round.

In a football environment where structure and consistency remain key challenges, initiatives like this retreat may prove vital. If the discussions translate into action, fans and clubs alike could see a more organised, competitive and commercially attractive NNL in the weeks ahead.
