NNL Orders Simultaneous Kick-Offs for Matchday 17 to Uphold Fairness
In a strategic move to preserve integrity and fairness, the Nigeria National League (NNL) has mandated that all Matchday 17 fixtures in Groups C and D kick off simultaneously at 3 p.m. this weekend across the northern centers.
As the 2024–25 season draws to a close, the penultimate round of matches has become critical for teams vying for spots in the NNL Super Eight playoffs, where only two teams from each group will qualify.
According to NNL COO, Danlami Alanana, the decision is aimed at curbing any last-minute match-fixing attempts and ensuring a level playing field.
“Because we are in the last stage, we want equal opportunity for clubs to progress in transparency and trust in the League,” Alanana stated in a letter sent to the clubs.
🏟️ Fixtures to Watch:

💭 Opinion: A Step Towards Trust in Nigerian Football
The NNL’s move to enforce simultaneous kick-offs should be commended. It signals a growing awareness that transparency and accountability are not just buzzwords but vital pillars for the credibility of Nigerian football.
Too often, fans and stakeholders have expressed doubt in league outcomes — citing suspicious results in crucial matches. This decision not only restores competitive balance but also helps build public trust in the league’s integrity.
As fans prepare for what promises to be a tense and thrilling Matchday 17, the NNL deserves praise for taking a bold step in the right direction.
Let the best teams qualify — on merit, not manipulation.
