NNL: Kun Khalifat Coach Uzoho Applauds Improved Refereeing Standards, Rates Season’s Officiating 85%

Kun Khalifat FC head coach, Obinna Uzoho, has praised the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) for the marked improvement in officiating during the 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

Speaking to TalkTalk Nigeria, Uzoho confidently rated this season’s officiating at 85%, describing it as a significant step forward for Nigerian grassroots football. The coach, who previously managed Papilo FC, reflected on the progress over the past eight years.

“The officials have shown a great deal of class, and while human error is always a factor, I must say that the standard of officiating in the league today has significantly improved compared to what I experienced eight years ago.”

🔎 Opinion: When Referees Get It Right, Football Wins

Referees are often the first to be blamed when things go wrong, so it's refreshing—and important—when a seasoned coach publicly commends their performance. Uzoho’s comments highlight how credibility and trust in officiating are slowly being restored in Nigerian football, especially at the second-tier level.

This public recognition sends a clear message: consistent training, transparency, and accountability from the NRA are starting to pay off. For too long, subpar officiating has marred the growth of the NNL. But now, we might just be witnessing a cultural shift where players, coaches, and fans can focus more on the game than on controversial calls.

⚽ Kun Khalifat’s Rise to the Super Eight

Uzoho also spoke about his team’s progress, using a school metaphor to describe the feeling:

“It is nothing but the joy of passing grade five going to grade six.”

Kun Khalifat FC didn’t just pass—they topped Group B with 37 points, booking their place in the eagerly awaited NNL Super Eight playoff tournament. This achievement is a testament to the club’s rising momentum and disciplined leadership.

🌍 What's Next?

As Kun Khalifat prepares for the Super Eight, one can’t help but wonder if they might just be one of the dark horses capable of making the leap to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). With officiating improving and clubs showing ambition, the NNL is looking more like a professional breeding ground than ever before.

And if this standard is sustained, maybe the next Victor Osimhen or Wilfred Ndidi won’t need to travel too far to find a level playing field.
