Final Burial Rites Announced for Gospel Singer Omije Ojumi

Family and friends of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, have announced the schedule for her final burial ceremonies following her passing on January 12. The singer succumbed to a prolonged leg ailment that had garnered widespread concern from fans and the gospel music community.

The burial arrangements were shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artist Alayo Melody on Friday, alongside a flier detailing the programme. According to the schedule, the ceremonies will begin on Tuesday, January 20, with a service of songs at the LTV 8 Ground, Ikeja, Lagos. This will be followed by a candlelight procession at 7pm and a tribute and artistes’ night at 8pm.

The interment service is set for Wednesday, January 21, and will be strictly for family members and close associates, the family confirmed.

Akinnaanu’s musical journey began at age 10, and she left a promising banking career to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to prominence with her hit song Omije Ojumi, which resonated deeply with Nigerian Christians and became a staple in churches and homes nationwide.

Opinion: Remembering a Life of Faith and Music

Omije Ojumi’s passing is a profound loss for the gospel music community, but her legacy is one of inspiration and devotion. She showed courage in following her passion for music while staying true to her faith, impacting countless lives through her songs.

The planned burial rites reflect not only a farewell but also a celebration of her life, talent, and the joy she brought to others. In times like these, it’s a reminder of the power of music to leave a lasting mark—her melody and message will continue to resonate far beyond her earthly presence.

Her story is a testament that dedication, faith, and purpose can turn a simple song into a timeless legacy.
