Skales Denies Rumours of Financial Help from Burna Boy, Warns Against Social Media Misinformation

Skales Denies Rumours of Financial Help from Burna Boy, Warns Against Social Media Misinformation

Nigerian singer Skales has publicly denied circulating rumours that fellow artist Burna Boy once gave him N600,000 during a period of financial difficulty.

Speaking on the Adesope Live Show, Skales revealed that the false story was created by an overzealous fan of Burna Boy on X (formerly Twitter).

“There was a time I had to reach out to a Burna Boy fan on Twitter, I think his name is Benny or something. I asked him what I had done to him to warrant the hate he exhibits towards me. He created fake news that there was a time I was broke and Burna Boy helped me with N600,000. That never happened,” Skales explained.

The singer used the platform to address the wider impact of fake news and social media on the music industry, urging his colleagues not to let fans pit them against one another. He stressed the importance of direct communication for resolving misunderstandings.

Opinion: Skales’ revelation underscores a growing challenge in the digital age: the power of misinformation to distort reality and harm reputations. In Nigeria’s vibrant music scene, where artists often rely on public perception and social media buzz, fake news can easily create unnecessary tensions and misunderstandings. His call for artists to communicate directly with each other is a reminder that transparency and dialogue are stronger than speculation, and that fans should also consume content responsibly, questioning sensational claims before spreading them further.
