Portable Slams Mavo’s Live Performance, Labels Singer “Untalented”

Portable Slams Mavo’s Live Performance, Labels Singer “Untalented”

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has once again stirred reactions online after openly criticizing fellow artiste Mavo, describing him as “untalented.”

In a video shared on his social media page, the Zazu hitmaker accused the Shakabulizzy crooner of relying heavily on auto-tune to create music. Portable made the remarks while sharing a clip from Mavo’s live band performance, which he claimed exposed a lack of real musical ability.

“Mavo uses auto-tune. I’ve been seeing some celebrities associating and collaborating with you,” Portable said. “You now went to do a live band. Is that how to perform? Even my signees sing better than you. Your live performance is shambolic.”

He also directed criticism at top industry figures, accusing them of supporting what he described as overhyped artistes while overlooking genuine talent. “I blame the superstars who overlook real talents and support overhyped wack artists,” he added.

Opinion: While Portable is no stranger to controversy, his comments once again raise the age-old debate about authenticity and live performance in the music industry. There is no doubt that technology like auto-tune has reshaped modern music, but live performances often reveal an artiste’s raw ability—and this is where audiences tend to form lasting impressions.

However, public criticism from fellow artistes, especially in harsh tones, often blurs the line between honest industry critique and personal attack. While conversations about talent and performance standards are necessary, they may be more constructive when approached with professionalism rather than ridicule. Ultimately, music lovers will decide whose artistry resonates most, and time often proves who truly has staying power.
