Rangers Won In Warri, And The Lagos Derby Finished Goalless
Lagos · Thursday 1 October 2026
Enugu Rangers won away at Warri Wolves in the Nigeria Professional Football League, with an Obaje penalty deciding the game. In Lagos, Ikorodu City and Sporting Lagos drew 0-0 in the derby at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
An away win in the NPFL is still news
The league has been defined for years by how rarely visiting teams win. Rangers taking three points from Warri, where the home crowd is loud and the pitch is familiar only to one side, is the kind of result that separates a title challenge from a respectable season.
The Lagos derby, from both benches
| Coach | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Bright Ozebagbe, Ikorodu City | Did enough in the first half to deserve the win |
| Jeffery Buter, Sporting Lagos | Must sharpen up in front of goal |
When both coaches say they should have won a 0-0, neither finished their chances.
Onikan for a Lagos derby is a better advert for Nigerian football than most of what happened in Bissau.
Rangers will take confidence from Warri into the next round. Both Lagos sides will take a point, a clean sheet and a list of missed chances, which is a fair summary of how most derbies in this league go.
