Portable Fires Back After Alleged Blacklisting by Music Executives Sparks Controversy

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has hit back at claims that he has been blacklisted by some of the country’s top music executives, including ace rapper Olamide.

The drama began when popular influencer Tunde Perry revealed that he attended a meeting where certain industry figures allegedly decided to blacklist Portable due to what they described as “gross misconduct.” Perry claimed that Portable’s behavior not only affected his own reputation but also discouraged established artists from supporting up-and-coming musicians.

According to Perry, Olamide reportedly became cautious about assisting new talents after Portable reportedly turned against him despite support on his breakthrough track, Zazu.

Responding via a video broadcast, Portable dismissed the allegations, blasting both Tunde Perry and the music executives. He declared that he does not need the backing of any music executive to thrive, insisting that his fans are enough to sustain his career.

“I am bigger than them. Who are those who want to blacklist? I heard that Tunde Perry said Olamide and his circle of music executives called for me to be blacklisted. Are you guys my fans or my God? Are you feeding me? I have my own fans. I am bigger than any f**king person,” Portable said.

He further added, “Anyone who wants to help you won’t stress you. Don’t use the assistance you gave me in the past to stress me… Olamide, don’t mess with me. If you mess with me, I will return the energy. Stay on your own lane.”

Opinion: Fame, Independence, and the Fine Line in Music Industry Relationships

Portable’s response highlights a recurring tension in the Nigerian music industry — the balance between artist independence and the support of established figures. Many rising stars rely on mentorship and collaborations to grow, but public clashes like this reveal how fragile these relationships can become when expectations are not aligned.

While Portable’s confidence and connection with his fanbase are undeniable, his statements also underscore the challenges of professionalism and reputation in a highly competitive industry. Fans often celebrate his boldness, but collaborations and goodwill from industry leaders remain valuable for long-term sustainability.

For observers, this situation is a reminder that success in entertainment is not just about talent or fan numbers — it also involves navigating relationships, maintaining professionalism, and understanding the dynamics of influence. Portable may be thriving now, but the ability to manage conflicts without burning bridges could determine whether he remains a lasting figure in the industry.

At the heart of it, this is more than gossip; it’s a lesson in how personal behavior, industry alliances, and public perception intersect in modern music.
