Portable Reveals He Was Paid ₦40 Million to Face Carter Efe in Boxing Match

Nigerian street-pop singer Portable has disclosed that he received ₦40 million just for agreeing to a boxing match with popular content creator Carter Efe.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Portable explained that the payment was made after he confirmed his readiness for the bout. The singer also revealed additional incentives: music executive Soso Soberekon and businessman E-Money have each pledged ₦50 million and a car should he emerge victorious.

Portable expressed full confidence in his ability to defeat Carter Efe, stating, “I have received N40 million from the organisers. They paid me the money just for accepting to fight Carter Efe. I’m very sure that I will defeat him. Soso Soberekon and E-Money said they will also give me N50 million each with a car if I defeat him.”

The boxing challenge gained attention online after Soberekon announced the ₦50 million prize for the winner. Carter Efe later accepted the challenge and urged organizers to set a date for the fight, signaling that both sides are ready to proceed.

Opinion: When Music Meets the Ring

The showdown between Portable and Carter Efe is a fascinating example of how entertainment and sports are increasingly intertwining in Nigeria. For fans, it is more than just a boxing match—it’s a spectacle that combines celebrity culture, competition, and high stakes.

The ₦40 million signing fee alone highlights the commercial appeal of such celebrity matches. Beyond the monetary incentives, these events generate buzz, social media engagement, and publicity for all involved, turning the ring into a new stage for entertainers.

While some may question the seriousness of musicians stepping into boxing, it also reflects a growing trend where creatives diversify their brand beyond music, tapping into sports and influencer culture. For Portable, it’s an opportunity to showcase confidence, marketability, and his competitive spirit—qualities that can enhance his public image if handled well.

Ultimately, whether fans are drawn by curiosity, rivalry, or sheer entertainment, this matchup promises excitement and demonstrates how modern celebrity culture blurs the lines between music, sports, and social media spectacle.
