Arteta Plays Down Arsenal’s Seven-Point Lead After Crucial Win Over Brighton

Arteta Plays Down Arsenal’s Seven-Point Lead After Crucial Win Over Brighton

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged calm despite his team opening a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table following a hard-fought victory on Wednesday night.

The Gunners secured a narrow 1–0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, thanks to an early goal from Bukayo Saka, who captained Arsenal for the match.

The result became even more significant after title rivals Manchester City were held to a 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

Saka’s first-half strike proved to be the difference in a tightly contested encounter, giving Arsenal another important three points as the title race intensifies.

Speaking after the match, Arteta praised his players for their commitment but refused to get carried away by the growing gap at the top.

“This was a really difficult one after everything we’ve been through in the last few weeks,” Arteta told TNT Sports.
“Every game in the Premier League offers you different things. Big credit to the boys because the effort they put in is astronomical.”

When asked about the seven-point advantage over Manchester City, the Spaniard maintained a cautious tone.

“We did what we had to do and that is what we will continue to do,” he said.

Opinion: Arteta’s Calm Could Be Arsenal’s Biggest Strength

Arteta’s reaction shows a manager determined to keep his squad focused rather than distracted by early celebrations. In a league as unpredictable as the Premier League, a seven-point lead can disappear quickly if complacency sets in.

Arsenal’s performance against Brighton was not flashy, but it was disciplined and mature—qualities that often define champions. The team’s ability to grind out results while rivals slip up could prove decisive as the season progresses.

At the same time, Arteta’s caution suggests he understands the challenge that still lies ahead. Manchester City have built a reputation for late-season surges, and the title race is far from over.

If Arsenal can maintain the same level of focus their manager is preaching, the Gunners may finally have what it takes to end their long wait for Premier League glory. ⚽
