Wizkid Makes History as First African Artist to Surpass 11 Billion Spotify Streams

Wizkid Makes History as First African Artist to Surpass 11 Billion Spotify Streams

Wizkid has set another major global milestone after becoming the first African artist to surpass 11 billion total streams on Spotify across all credits.

The achievement was announced by music chart platform ChartsAfrica on Tuesday, who described the Afrobeats star as a global superstar in a post shared on X.

“First African artist to reach each milestone in Spotify history,” ChartsAfrica wrote. “Wizkid becomes the first African artiste ever to cross 11 billion Spotify streams across all credits.”

The milestone comes shortly after the release of his latest collaboration with DJ Tunez titled State of Mind, which dropped on May 15, 2026. The track reportedly recorded over 685,000 global streams on Spotify within its first day of release, further boosting Wizkid’s streaming dominance.

Opinion

Wizkid’s latest achievement is more than just a personal record — it reflects the global rise of Afrobeats as a dominant force in contemporary music. Reaching 11 billion streams places him in an elite category of worldwide artists whose influence extends far beyond regional boundaries.

What makes this milestone even more significant is its consistency. It is not driven by a single viral hit, but by years of sustained relevance, collaborations, and global audience growth.

At this point, Wizkid’s career represents a broader shift in the music industry: African artists are no longer breaking into the global market — they are actively shaping it.
