Chelle Adds Collins Yira Sor and Tijani Al-Ameen to Super Eagles Unity Cup Squad

Éric Chelle has strengthened his Nigeria national football team squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London with two late additions ahead of the tournament.

Collins Yira Sor, who plays for KRC Genk, and Tijani Al-Ameen of Shooting Stars SC have been included in the 27-man squad announced earlier this week.

Sor, who previously featured in Super Eagles friendlies against Iran and Jordan in March, returns to the national team setup, while Al-Ameen receives his first senior call-up after an impressive domestic campaign.

However, Zadok Yohanna will miss out after his Swedish club AIK Fotboll declined to release him, citing fitness concerns and player welfare following a recent hamstring issue.

The Super Eagles are expected to depart for London on Friday as preparations intensify for the invitational tournament.

Opinion

Chelle’s late squad adjustments highlight the balance national team coaches must strike between form, fitness, and club cooperation. Bringing in Sor adds experience and familiarity with the system, while Al-Ameen’s inclusion signals a willingness to reward domestic talent.

The setback with Zadok Yohanna is also a reminder of how club decisions increasingly influence international squad building, especially when young players are recovering from injury.

For Nigeria, the Unity Cup presents a useful opportunity to test depth and integrate new players, but cohesion in a short tournament window will be just as important as individual talent.
