Kelechi Iheanacho’s future at Celtic F.C. remains uncertain after former manager Martin O'Neill admitted he has no idea whether the Nigerian striker will stay at the club beyond this season.

Iheanacho joined the Scottish champions on a one-year deal last summer following his departure from Sevilla FC and initially struggled to settle in Scotland.

However, the Super Eagles forward gradually turned things around and eventually became an important figure for the Hoops during the latter part of the campaign.

The 29-year-old ended the season with nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions and crowned his impressive resurgence with a stunning goal in Celtic’s 3-0 victory in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park last weekend.

Despite his late-season heroics, uncertainty still surrounds his long-term future at the club.

Speaking about Iheanacho’s situation, O’Neill jokingly admitted that even the striker himself keeps asking questions about his contract situation.

“Iheanacho keeps asking me, ‘What do you think, are they going to keep me on?’ I have no idea, mate. Don’t ask me, I am not the manager anymore,” O’Neill told The Scotsman.
