Casemiro Makes Brazilian World Cup History With Goal Against Japan

Brazil midfielder Casemiro has written his name into the country’s FIFA World Cup history books after becoming the second-oldest Brazilian player to score at the tournament.

The former Casemiro midfielder achieved the milestone during Brazil’s 2-1 comeback victory over Japan in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 clash on Monday.

Casemiro found the net in the 56th minute, rising highest to head in Gabriel’s cross and bring Brazil back into the game after Japan had taken the lead through Kaishu Sano.

At 34 years and 126 days old, Casemiro moved into second place on Brazil’s all-time list of oldest World Cup goalscorers.

He is only behind Brazilian legend Bebeto, who scored against Denmark at the 1998 World Cup at the age of 34 years and 137 days.

Casemiro’s goal was not only historic but also crucial, as it sparked Brazil’s comeback and helped Carlo Ancelotti’s team secure qualification for the Round of 16.

The midfielder’s experience continues to prove valuable on the biggest stage, showing that even in the later stages of a career, big-game players can still deliver decisive moments.
