Davido Lands FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert Gig as Global Football Celebration Heads to Los Angeles

Davido Lands FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert Gig as Global Football Celebration Heads to Los Angeles

Nigerian music superstar Davido has secured another major international stage after FIFA confirmed him as one of the headline performers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert series in Los Angeles.

The global football governing body announced on Tuesday that Davido will perform alongside Major Lazer, led by renowned American DJ and producer Diplo, at the Los Angeles edition of the countdown concert on June 10.

The event forms part of FIFA's ambitious pre-World Cup celebration, featuring synchronized concerts across the tournament's three host nations — the United States, Canada and Mexico — ahead of the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Los Angeles concert will take place at the Crypto.com Arena, with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. PT and the live broadcast beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT. Simultaneous performances from Mexico City and Toronto will also be streamed, creating a unique cross-border entertainment experience for football fans worldwide.

According to FIFA World Cup 2026 Chief Tournament Officer for the United States, Manolo Zubiria, the concert series is designed to celebrate the passion, diversity and unity that football inspires across cultures.

“With the opening match only days away, Los Angeles provides the perfect stage for an unforgettable celebration of football, music and global culture,” Zubiria said.

Tickets for the event will go on sale from June 3, while FIFA has confirmed that the concert will be streamed live through its digital platforms and social media channels. Fans will also have access to full concert footage and exclusive behind-the-scenes content through FIFA's VuMe Live platform.

Davido's inclusion in the star-studded lineup further highlights the growing influence of Afrobeats on the global entertainment stage, as the Nigerian singer continues to represent Africa at some of the world's biggest cultural and sporting events.

Opinion: Another Major Win for Afrobeats on the Global Stage

Davido's appearance at FIFA's World Cup countdown concert is more than just another international performance—it is a reflection of how far African music has travelled in the global entertainment ecosystem.

Over the past decade, Afrobeats has evolved from a regional sound into a dominant global force, with artists like Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Rema becoming household names across continents. FIFA's decision to feature Davido in a flagship World Cup event reinforces the genre's growing cultural relevance and commercial power.

For Nigeria, the moment carries additional significance. While the Super Eagles will not be part of the World Cup spectacle on the pitch, Nigerian culture will still have a strong presence on one of football's biggest stages through its music.

As millions of fans tune in from around the world, Davido's performance offers another opportunity to showcase the richness of African creativity and further cement Afrobeats as one of the defining sounds of this generation.
