Rema Set to Headline 2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles

Rema Set to Headline 2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.

FIFA announced the lineup in an Instagram post, revealing that Rema will perform on June 12, 2026, alongside global stars including LISA, Katy Perry, Tyla, Future and Anitta.

According to FIFA, the selected artists reflect the cultural diversity and global musical influence connected to the tournament.

“This lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas, highlighting the nation’s rich influence on music, entertainment, and pop culture, while showcasing the power of music to bring people together across the country,” FIFA stated.

The announcement comes shortly after confirmation that “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, performed by Burna Boy and Shakira, will be released on May 14.

FIFA also revealed that the World Cup final on July 19 will feature its first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show, curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay.

Opinion: Afrobeats Is No Longer Visiting the Global Stage — It Is Leading It

The inclusion of Rema at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony is another clear sign that Afrobeats has moved beyond being a regional sound into becoming a central force in global pop culture.

Not long ago, African artists were often invited as supporting acts at international events. Today, Nigerian stars are headlining some of the world’s biggest stages alongside globally established names.

For Rema, this moment also reflects the rapid rise of a younger generation of African artists who are blending local identity with international appeal. His music resonates not only in Africa but across Europe, America, Asia, and Latin America.

The World Cup itself has always been more than football—it is a cultural spectacle. By featuring artists like Rema, FIFA is acknowledging the growing influence of African music on global youth culture.

The addition of Burna Boy to the official tournament anthem with Shakira further strengthens that narrative.

What stands out most is that Afrobeats is no longer being treated as a trend. It is becoming part of the global entertainment mainstream.

And if the 2026 World Cup delivers the kind of musical moments fans expect, this tournament could become one of the biggest showcases yet for African music on the world stage.
