Official: Inter Women Sign Super Falcons Midfielder Toni Payne on Three-Year Deal

Italian club Inter Women have completed the signing of Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne from English Women's Super League side Everton.

The Serie A Femminile club confirmed that the Nigeria international has signed a contract that will keep her at the club until June 30, 2028, adding an experienced and versatile player to their squad ahead of the new season.

Payne joins Inter after a spell with Everton, having previously built an impressive career across Europe.

The 31-year-old began her professional journey with Dutch giants Ajax before moving to Spanish side Sevilla in 2018. She spent six successful years in Spain before making the switch to England two years ago.

Internationally, Payne has established herself as one of the key figures in the Super Falcons setup. She was part of the Nigerian team that captured a record-extending 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco and has again been selected by head coach Justine Madugu for the upcoming 2026 WAFCON finals.

Her arrival is expected to strengthen Inter Women's midfield with her experience, tactical intelligence and versatility, qualities that have made her a regular for both club and country over the years.

The move also marks another significant step in Payne's career as she prepares for a fresh challenge in Italian football while aiming to maintain her place in Nigeria's squad ahead of another major continental tournament.

Opinion:

Toni Payne's transfer to Inter Women appears to be a well-timed move for both player and club. After gaining valuable experience in the Netherlands, Spain and England, she now has the opportunity to showcase her abilities in Italy's increasingly competitive women's league. With the 2026 WAFCON on the horizon, regular football at a top European club could further enhance her form and leadership, benefiting both Inter and the Super Falcons as they pursue more silverware.
