Chelsea Eye €45m Move for Alvaro Carreras After Marc Cucurella's Real Madrid Exit

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras as the Premier League club looks to strengthen its defense following Marc Cucurella's departure to the Spanish giants.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blues have identified Carreras as one of their leading targets to fill the void left by Cucurella, who recently completed a reported €60 million move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Carreras returned to Real Madrid from Portuguese side Benfica last summer in a deal worth around €50 million. The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid debut campaign back in Spain, making 40 appearances across all competitions and showcasing his ability at the highest level.

However, despite his contributions, reports suggest Carreras is no longer considered a guaranteed part of Jose Mourinho's long-term plans, opening the door for a possible return to English football.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, who took charge of the West London club last month after leaving Real Madrid in January, is believed to be a strong admirer of the Spanish defender and sees him as an ideal addition to his evolving squad.

Reports indicate that Real Madrid would be willing to negotiate a transfer for around €45 million. Such a deal would allow Los Blancos to recover a significant portion of the fee they paid for Carreras while offsetting part of the cost of signing Cucurella, effectively creating a near swap between the two clubs.

Chelsea currently have several young options at left-back, including Denner, Jorrel Hato, and Caleb Wiley. However, the addition of Carreras would provide greater experience and immediate quality in a position that has become a priority following Cucurella's exit.

With the transfer window still open, discussions could gather pace as Chelsea continue reshaping their squad for the new campaign.

Opinion: Carreras Could Be the Perfect Fit for Chelsea's New Era

If Chelsea are serious about challenging for major honours again, replacing Marc Cucurella with a player of proven quality is essential. Alvaro Carreras appears to fit that profile.

At just 23, Carreras combines youth with valuable experience gained in both Portugal and Spain. His ability to contribute in attack while remaining defensively disciplined makes him an attractive option for a Chelsea side looking to build under Xabi Alonso.

For Real Madrid, selling Carreras would also make financial sense if Mourinho does not see him as a regular starter. Recovering €45 million for a player who may struggle for minutes would represent smart business, especially after investing heavily in Cucurella.

For Chelsea, the move would be more than just replacing one left-back with another—it would be a statement that the club remains committed to recruiting players capable of making an immediate impact while still offering long-term potential. If negotiations progress, Carreras could prove to be one of the smartest defensive signings of the summer.
