Ogogo's Daughter Says People Are Trying To Profit From Her Father's Illness

Ogogo's Daughter Says People Are Trying To Profit From Her Father's Illness

Entertainment

A daughter of the veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, known everywhere as Ogogo, has said that some people are trying to profit from her father's illness. He is being treated for stage four cancer.

This follows Jide Kosoko's disclosure earlier in the week that more than 500 Nigerians had come forward offering spiritual treatment, and his explanation that Hassan cannot be moved from the facility where he is receiving care.

How a public appeal turns into an opportunity

The sequence is familiar enough to be predictable. A video of the family appealing for help circulates. Attention arrives. Money begins moving toward the family, or toward people claiming to represent them. And somewhere in that flow, a gap opens that somebody steps into.

It happens because the appeal itself has to be public. A Nigerian family facing advanced cancer costs without insurance has no private route to that amount of money. The only mechanism available is the one that also exposes them.

If you want to help. Give through a channel the family has named directly, not through an account circulating on social media, and not to anybody offering treatment. The family has asked for prayers and for space, which costs nothing and cannot be intercepted.

The structural point, again

Taiwo Hassan has been a working actor for decades and is known in every Yoruba-speaking household in the country. It still took a public appeal by his children and the intervention of a senator to get him admitted for immediate treatment.

Nollywood has never built the collective infrastructure that would make a moment like this administrative rather than emotional. Guild health schemes have been discussed for years. None has reached the scale where a senior actor with a serious diagnosis is covered as a matter of course.

Until one does, every such case will run exactly this way: an appeal, a wave of goodwill, and a family having to spend energy identifying who among the people offering help actually means it.
