Three Northern Endorsements In One Weekend Is Not A Coincidence

Senate President Godswill Akpabio spent the weekend urging northern youths to back President Bola Tinubu's re-election. Katsina governor Dikko Umaru Radda declared on Sunday that his state remains firmly behind Tinubu and the APC. The Kano governor was separately seeking support for the President.
Three statements, one region, one weekend. That is a schedule, not a mood.
The arithmetic behind the geography
The North West is the largest single bloc of votes available to any Nigerian presidential candidate. Katsina and Kano sit inside it. No presidential campaign in the Fourth Republic has been built without a serious answer to that region, and the current administration's answer in 2023 was thinner than the final result made it look.
Endorsements are not evidence of support. They are evidence of where a campaign thinks its support is not yet safe.
Why youths specifically
Akpabio's framing was aimed at northern young people and built around economic reforms. That is a deliberate choice of audience, because the demographic most exposed to the cost of those reforms is the same one being asked to credit them.
It is also the demographic that has moved fastest away from party loyalty in the last two cycles. A voter over fifty in Katsina is a known quantity to the APC machine. A voter of twenty-four is not, and there are a great many more of them.

The thing to write down
Each of these statements creates a public number that can be checked against the certified result. Katsina said it will be firmly behind the ticket. Kano is seeking support. Those are testable claims with a date attached.
Almost nobody goes back and checks, which is why the promises stay free and the same people make them again in the next cycle.
