NFF President Gusau Confident Super Eagles Will Soar in 2026 World Cup Playoffs — Can Nigeria Rise Again?
As the countdown begins to the all-important 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed strong optimism that the Super Eagles will rise to the challenge and secure qualification.
The Nigerian side will battle Gabon, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo for the single available ticket at the mini-tournament to be hosted in Morocco.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Panthers of Gabon in the semi-final clash on Thursday, November 13, with the winner progressing to the decisive final.
Speaking via thenff.com, Gusau assured fans that the NFF, in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), is leaving no stone unturned in preparing the team for success.
“Everything is being done, by the NSC and the NFF, to see that nothing is left to chance. No stone will be left unturned,” he said.
“That special spirit that saw the team rise to the occasion and score the four goals they actually needed against Benin Republic on the final day of the qualifiers, will propel the team to victory in the play-offs.”
The Super Eagles are expected to open camp on Sunday, November 9, as preparations intensify.
💭 Opinion: Time for the Eagles to Show Their True Feathers
There’s no denying it — Nigerian football fans have been through a rollercoaster of emotions lately. From heartbreaking draws to flashes of brilliance, the Super Eagles have left many wondering which version of the team will show up when it matters most.
But Gusau’s confidence might not just be political optimism — it’s a reflection of faith in the team’s fighting spirit. The thrilling comeback against Benin Republic reminded everyone that when the Super Eagles play with passion, they can take on anyone in Africa.
However, talent alone won’t be enough this time. The playoffs will demand focus, strategy, and unity — qualities that have sometimes eluded the team in recent years.
If Nigeria can channel that same energy, discipline, and hunger that once made them Africa’s pride, then yes — Gusau’s dream of seeing the Eagles fly to the 2026 World Cup is very much alive.
Because when the Super Eagles soar, an entire nation rises with them. 🇳🇬🦅
