Director Pink Reveals Why She Quit Acting — “I Chose to Be My Own Boss After Facing Humiliation” 🎬

Director Pink Reveals Why She Quit Acting — “I Chose to Be My Own Boss After Facing Humiliation” 🎬

Nigerian music video director and cinematographer Praise Onyeagwalam, popularly known as Director Pink, has shared the emotional story behind her decision to abandon her acting dream.

In a recent interview, the award-winning creative revealed that she once aspired to become an actress but was discouraged by the humiliating experiences she faced at auditions and the inappropriate advances from certain industry figures.

“I wanted to be an actress but the humiliation was too much. Long queues, shady ‘come to this location’ calls. I said ‘No.’ That’s when I chose to be my own boss,” she recounted.

Now one of the few successful female music video directors in Nigeria’s male-dominated entertainment industry, Director Pink admitted that her chosen path also comes with challenges — but unlike acting, she finds empowerment in owning her craft.

She encouraged aspiring music video directors to embrace patience and delayed gratification, reminding them that success takes time and dedication.

“Those who are at the peak today didn’t get there overnight,” she added.

💭 Opinion: Director Pink’s Story Is Every Woman’s Battle Cry for Dignity and Independence

Director Pink’s story hits deep — not just because it’s about one woman’s choice, but because it reflects the silent struggles many women in the entertainment industry face.

For years, the Nigerian film scene has been clouded by stories of young women being asked to “trade” dignity for opportunity. What makes Pink’s story powerful is that she didn’t just walk away — she built her own lane.

In choosing to hold the camera instead of standing in front of it, she flipped the narrative: from being directed to becoming the director. 🎥

Her message to upcoming creatives is golden — your worth isn’t defined by who gives you a chance, but by what you create when you take control.

In an industry where shortcuts often come with scars, Director Pink’s resilience reminds us that success built on self-respect lasts longer than fame built on compromise.

💗 She didn’t just change careers — she changed the story for women who dare to say “no” and choose themselves instead.
