Troost-Ekong Rallies Super Eagles: “We Can’t Afford to Drop Points Against Lesotho” 🇳🇬⚽

Troost-Ekong Rallies Super Eagles: “We Can’t Afford to Drop Points Against Lesotho” 🇳🇬⚽

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has called for total focus and respect as Nigeria prepares to face Lesotho’s Crocodiles in a must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane, on Friday.

Nigeria’s qualification hopes are hanging by a thread after managing only two wins in eight games, placing them third in Group C with 11 points — three behind joint leaders Benin Republic and South Africa.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Troost-Ekong emphasized the importance of securing all three points while acknowledging that Lesotho is not a team to underestimate.

“We are approaching this game the same way we approached the game against South Africa. It is important for us to get the three points,” he said.

“We have to also show Lesotho respect. They have done well in the group. It’s going to be an important game for both of us.

We are focused on our preparation now, we have two or three days to prepare for the game.”

Opinion: The Eagles Have No More Excuses — It’s Time to Fight for Nigeria’s Pride 🦅🔥

Troost-Ekong’s words couldn’t come at a better time. The Super Eagles are not just playing for points — they’re playing for national redemption. Every draw, every missed chance, every defensive lapse has pushed Nigeria closer to a nightmare scenario: missing another World Cup.

Lesotho may not be a powerhouse, but they’ve shown resilience and discipline — the very qualities Nigeria seems to have lost in recent matches. What Troost-Ekong and his teammates must now deliver isn’t just victory; it’s belief. The kind that reminds fans why they once filled stadiums just to watch the green and white soar.

This match isn’t about statistics — it’s about character. About whether this team still has the fire to rise when everything seems lost. The Super Eagles can’t afford complacency or excuses anymore.

Friday’s match in Polokwane isn’t just another fixture — it’s a battle for identity, for pride, and for the millions of Nigerians whose hearts still beat to the rhythm of football.

If there was ever a time for the Eagles to prove they can still fly, it’s now. 🦅🇳🇬
