BamBam Reveals Why She Avoids Deeply Spiritual Movie Roles: “I Take My Sensitivity Seriously”

BamBam Reveals Why She Avoids Deeply Spiritual Movie Roles: “I Take My Sensitivity Seriously”

Nollywood actress Bamike Adenibuyan, popularly known as BamBam, has opened up about the kind of movie roles she intentionally avoids—especially those that could disturb her emotionally or spiritually.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the actress and mother of two revealed that she does not take on deeply spiritual or diabolical roles unless she is certain she is mentally and spiritually prepared for them.

According to her, acting requires full concentration and emotional strength, and not every role is worth risking one’s peace of mind.

“I am a very sensitive actor,” she said.
“I try to avoid deeply spiritual films, especially when I’m not sure or spiritually ready for them.”

BamBam explained that her sensitivity shapes her script choices and keeps her aligned with her personal wellbeing.

Speaking about her character Chioma in Love in Every Word, the actress shared how she carefully stepped into the role by first understanding Chioma’s internal world, then layering parts of herself to make the performance relatable and authentic.

“When you get a script, you step into the role of that character… Acting is about understanding where your character is coming from so you can react as they would,” she added.

Since leaving the Big Brother Naija reality show, BamBam has built a notable career in Nollywood, starring in Inspector K, Backup Wife, and Foreigner’s God, where she acted alongside her husband, Teddy A.

Opinion: BamBam’s Honesty Highlights a Conversation Nollywood Often Ignores

BamBam’s revelation touches on a deeper conversation in Nollywood—one that many actors experience but few openly address: the emotional and spiritual toll of storytelling.

Acting isn’t just reading lines; it requires vulnerability, immersion, and emotional openness. For roles involving dark or diabolical themes, that immersion can feel overwhelming, especially for actors who are spiritually conscious or highly sensitive.

By admitting that she spaces out such roles until she feels mentally and spiritually ready, BamBam demonstrates a maturity that more entertainers should embrace—the courage to protect one’s peace above public expectations.

It’s easy for viewers to forget that behind every intense performance is a human being who must live with the aftereffects long after the cameras stop rolling. BamBam’s stance is a reminder that self-awareness is not weakness—it is wisdom.

Her approach also speaks to a growing trend in Nollywood where actors are taking mental health and spiritual wellbeing seriously, ensuring their craft enriches their lives rather than draining them.

In a world where “any role for the fame” often leads to burnout, BamBam choosing intentionality over pressure is refreshing—sometimes the bravest thing an actor can do is simply say, “I’m not ready for this role yet.”
