Super Falcons Win National Team of the Year at 2025 CAF Awards

Super Falcons Win National Team of the Year at 2025 CAF Awards

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been named National Team of the Year at the prestigious 2025 CAF Awards, according to TalkTalk Nigeria.

The recognition comes on the heels of the team’s stunning performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they claimed a record-extending 10th continental title. Under the guidance of head coach Justine Madugu, the Falcons defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling and hard-fought final that showcased the grit and brilliance of the Nigerian side.

In securing the CAF honour, the Super Falcons triumphed over strong contenders—the Black Queens of Ghana and tournament hosts, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco.

The award was received on behalf of the team by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, who praised the squad for their commitment, discipline and unwavering spirit.

Meanwhile, in the Young Women’s Player of the Year category, Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood narrowly missed out, with Morocco’s Doha El Madani clinching the award.

OPINION: A Victory Beyond a Trophy — The Super Falcons Continue to Carry African Women’s Football

The Super Falcons’ latest triumph is more than just another award on a shelf—it is a powerful reminder of Nigeria’s unshakeable dominance in women’s football and a celebration of resilience, legacy, and growth.

For years, the Falcons have held African women’s football on their shoulders, often rising above administrative challenges, limited support, and intense competition to remain on top. Winning their 10th WAFCON title was not just a victory; it was an emphatic message that excellence is not luck—it is a standard they have set through decades of consistency.

What makes this award truly beautiful is the story behind it:
– A team underestimated at times, yet unbreakable.
– A squad transitioning to a new era under Justine Madugu, yet still unstoppable.
– A group of women who continue to inspire millions of young girls across Nigeria and Africa.

Even Shakirat Moshood’s near-win is a sign that Nigeria’s next generation is rising. The Falcons are not just winning today; they are building tomorrow.

In a football landscape where the men’s team struggles to meet expectations, the Super Falcons remain the pride of the nation—steady, dependable, and always bringing glory home.

Their CAF Award is well deserved… but more importantly, it is a reminder:
When Nigerian women step on the pitch, Africa watches. And more often than not, Nigeria wins.
