Super Eagles Set to Submit Final AFCON 2025 Squad as Deadline Approaches
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is expected to submit his final 24-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday, December 11, TalkTalk Nigeria reports.
TalkTalk Nigeria earlier revealed that Chelle has already forwarded a provisional squad list to CAF. The final AFCON squad will be selected from this pool of players.
According to tournament regulations, all qualified teams must submit their complete lists at least 10 days before the start of Africa’s biggest football competition.
Nigeria has been drawn into Group C, where they will battle the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, and the Cranes of Uganda. The three-time African champions will kick off their campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, in Fez.
Opinion Angle:
As anticipation builds, many Nigerians are eager to see which players make the final cut, especially with Chelle’s selection style still under close public scrutiny. With AFCON 2025 approaching fast, this squad announcement could either boost confidence in the new coach or raise fresh questions about team preparedness and strategy.
Nigeria’s group is tricky — not necessarily the toughest, but filled with unpredictable teams known for causing upsets. For the Super Eagles to reclaim continental glory, Chelle’s final list must strike the right balance between experience, fitness, and hunger for victory.
Fans will be watching closely, hoping this AFCON becomes the moment Nigeria reclaims its lost dominance on the African stage.
