Super Eagles Arrive Fes as Final AFCON Preparations Begin
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Fes, Morocco, ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, TalkTalk Nigeria reports.
Head coach Éric Chelle and his players touched down in the Moroccan city on Thursday night, marking the end of their five-day preparatory camp in Cairo, Egypt.
During their stay in Egypt, the three-time African champions played a single warm-up match, losing 2–1 to the Pharaohs at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday. Despite the result, the friendly served its purpose, allowing Chelle to test new faces, assess tactical options, and gauge the team’s readiness against one of Africa’s traditional heavyweights.
With their base now set in Morocco, the Super Eagles are expected to step up preparations from Friday as focus shifts fully to the tournament. Nigeria will begin their AFCON campaign next Tuesday with an opening Group C clash against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania.
Opinion: From Preparation to Purpose
Arrival in Fes signals a mental shift for the Super Eagles—from experimentation to execution. The loss to Egypt, though disappointing on paper, may prove valuable if the lessons learned translate into sharper performances when it truly matters.
Nigeria’s squad boasts a blend of experience and youthful energy, and this final phase of training will be crucial in fine-tuning cohesion, defensive solidity, and attacking efficiency. The opening game against Tanzania is one the Super Eagles will be expected to win, but AFCON history has repeatedly shown that no fixture can be taken lightly.
As the countdown begins, belief, discipline, and focus will be just as important as talent. If Chelle can get his side clicking early, Nigeria have every reason to dream of adding a fourth continental title to their rich AFCON history.
