Tragedy Strikes UNN: Promising DJ Brownlex Loses His Life in Fatal Accident En Route to Davido’s Concert

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) community has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of one of its vibrant students and fast-rising entertainers, Chrisantus Chukwuebuka Nwankwo, popularly known as DJ Brownlex.

According to reports, DJ Brownlex — a 300-level student from the Department of Economics — lost his life in a fatal car accident on Saturday, November 1, while traveling to Davido’s concert in Enugu.

Witnesses said the bus conveying Chukwuebuka and other students left late in the evening and allegedly had faulty headlights, which contributed to the accident. The vehicle reportedly collided with a parked trailer along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Sadly, Chukwuebuka and the driver died instantly, while several others sustained severe injuries. Two students remain unconscious, and a final-year student is reportedly battling a serious brain injury at Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka.

The late DJ Brownlex was laid to rest on Sunday, November 2, amid tears and disbelief. A viral video from the burial showed an elderly woman, believed to be his relative, crying out his name in heartbreak as she touched his lifeless body in an open casket — a haunting scene that captured the depth of the family’s loss.

The heartbreaking death of DJ Brownlex is not just another tragic story; it’s a painful reminder of how fragile life can be, especially for young people full of promise and purpose.

Here was a young man — passionate, talented, and driven — who had already carved a name for himself on campus through music and entertainment. To see his life cut short on a night meant for joy and celebration is nothing short of devastating.

But beyond the tears and tributes lies a sobering truth: many student deaths in Nigeria could be prevented. From poorly maintained vehicles to reckless driving and lack of enforcement of basic road safety laws, these accidents continue to claim brilliant minds who could have shaped the nation’s future.

It’s time universities, transport unions, and event organizers take road safety seriously. A simple check — ensuring vehicles have working headlights, trained drivers, and proper departure times — can save lives.

For students, too, there’s a lesson: every journey, no matter how exciting, deserves caution. Sometimes, delaying a trip or choosing safety over speed can be the difference between life and death.

DJ Brownlex’s death is a wound to the UNN community and to every young Nigerian chasing their dreams. His light may have dimmed too soon, but may his story ignite a change — one that values life above all else.

May his soul rest in peace. 🕊️
