Funke Akindele Publicly Scolds Her Godson Kamo Over “Stupid Joke”
The actress warns she may no longer feature him in her videos
A viral video has captured the moment popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele publicly rebuked her godson and skit maker, Kamo, over what she described as a “very stupid joke.”
In the trending clip, the Jenifa’s Diary star was visibly upset as she lashed out at Kamo for allegedly being rude and disrespectful, expressing her disappointment and threatening to cut him off from her productions.
Funke was heard saying:
“Don’t interfere with my job, I’m not joking with you. Please go away. He is a very rude boy; he cracked one very stupid joke today and I don’t want to talk to him again. So, if you don’t see him on my Instablog videos, just know that I have sent him away. Very annoying brat.”
In the video, a remorseful Kamo could be heard apologizing, saying,
“Sorry ma, I’m sorry mummy.”
But Funke sharply interjected,
“Who’s your mummy? We are not from the same state. Stupid boy.”
The incident has since sparked widespread reactions online, with fans divided between those praising Akindele for enforcing discipline and others urging her to have addressed the matter privately.
Opinion: A Teachable Moment or Public Overreaction?
Funke Akindele’s outburst may seem harsh to some, but it exposes the tension between mentorship and accountability in the entertainment world. As one of Nollywood’s most successful figures, she’s known for her no-nonsense approach to work — a trait that has built her empire and shaped the careers of many young talents.
However, the public nature of the rebuke raises a question: should mentorship come with public humiliation? While it’s important to correct disrespect, moments like these remind us that fame often turns private corrections into viral spectacles.
Still, one cannot deny that Akindele’s reaction reflects a deep sense of discipline, boundaries, and high standards — values that the younger generation in entertainment often struggles with.
Whether Kamo’s mistake was grave enough to warrant such a scolding or not, one thing is clear: in Funke’s world, respect isn’t negotiable.
