NPFL: Abia Warriors Edge Plateau United as Enyimba Thrash Shooting Stars in Aba

NPFL: Abia Warriors Edge Plateau United as Enyimba Thrash Shooting Stars in Aba

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia continued their impressive NPFL campaign on Sunday with a hard-fought 1–0 away victory over Plateau United Football Club of Jos.

The decisive moment came in the 68th minute when Taheer Abubakar calmly found the back of the net to hand the visitors all three points in a classy encounter. Despite creating several clear-cut chances in the first half, the Umuahia side had to remain patient before their dominance eventually paid off.

Under the guidance of experienced coach Imama Amakapabo, Abia Warriors showed discipline, structure and attacking intent—qualities that are steadily making them one of the most difficult teams to play against this season.

Meanwhile, in Aba, Enyimba FC put on a commanding display as they swept aside Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan with a convincing 3–0 victory at the Enyimba International Stadium.

Ufere Chinedu set the tone early, opening the scoring in the 8th minute after latching onto a well-weighted pass from Isah Mohammed. The People’s Elephant maintained control of the game and were rewarded late on when Edidiong Ezekiel doubled the lead in the 84th minute. Chidera Michael then sealed the emphatic win deep into stoppage time, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.

Opinion: Sunday’s results once again highlighted the growing competitiveness of the NPFL. Abia Warriors’ ability to grind out an away win speaks volumes about their maturity and tactical discipline, while Enyimba’s dominant performance showed glimpses of the attacking football their supporters have been craving.

For Enyimba fans, the result felt like a reminder of the club’s identity—fearless, aggressive and entertaining. If the Aba giants can maintain this attacking momentum, they could quickly re-establish themselves as serious title contenders. As the season unfolds, performances like these are exactly what keep the NPFL exciting and fans fully invested in the league’s growth.
