AFCON 2025: Lookman Hails Osimhen Partnership After Tunisia Win

AFCON 2025: Lookman Hails Osimhen Partnership After Tunisia Win

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has spoken glowingly about his on-field relationship with Victor Osimhen following Nigeria’s thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Lookman highlighted the growing understanding between himself and the former Napoli striker, describing Osimhen as a top-class forward and a key part of Nigeria’s attacking strength.

Both players found the back of the net in Saturday’s group-stage clash, underlining their importance to the Super Eagles’ attacking play and their ability to rise to the occasion on the big stage.

“We are pleased with the performance today. Victor is a good striker, and we have a good relationship and make the most of that,” Lookman said.
“Anywhere I can help the team I do. I now play closer to the goal, which gives me more chances to hurt the opponent, and I am happy with that.”

The Atalanta star has recently been linked with a potential move to Galatasaray, where Osimhen is currently plying his trade, adding extra intrigue to their blossoming partnership both at club-rumour level and on international duty.

Opinion: What stood out most against Tunisia was not just the goals, but the chemistry between Lookman and Osimhen. Their movement, awareness and selfless play gave Nigeria a cutting edge that has sometimes been missing in big tournaments. Lookman’s willingness to adapt his role and play closer to goal shows maturity, while Osimhen’s relentless presence continues to stretch defences.

As Nigeria prepare to face Uganda on Tuesday, fans will be hoping this attacking partnership continues to flourish. If Lookman and Osimhen maintain this level of understanding, the Super Eagles may well be building the kind of forward line capable of carrying the nation deep into the AFCON tournament—and perhaps even all the way to the trophy.
