Rudeboy Blasts Nollywood Filmmakers Over Poor Editing Standards

Rudeboy Blasts Nollywood Filmmakers Over Poor Editing Standards

Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has expressed disappointment over the substandard editing practices in the Nollywood industry. The singer, who is one half of the renowned music duo P-Square, took to his Instagram story to criticize filmmakers for failing to maintain quality standards in their productions.

Rudeboy shared a clip from a Nollywood movie where the sound technician holding the microphone was blatantly visible in the scene—a clear oversight that should have been corrected during post-production. The careless mistake left the singer bewildered, questioning how such a glaring error could make it past editing and be released to the public.

In the background of the shared clip, Rudeboy’s frustration was evident as he stated, “So una shoot video finish, edit am, even microphone man put inside the video. Please, just watch. Please, tell me, who’s this person? Hahaha.”

Opinion: Quality Control in Nollywood Needs Serious Attention

Rudeboy’s criticism brings to light a recurring issue in the Nollywood industry—poor attention to detail and rushed editing. It’s no news that the Nigerian film industry has made significant strides over the years, producing movies that have gained international recognition. However, this growth must be matched by professionalism and precision, especially in areas like cinematography, editing, and sound management.

Mistakes like this are not just embarrassing; they undermine the credibility of the industry and diminish audience trust. While it’s true that the industry has its challenges, including limited funding and resources, the basic requirement of editing properly should not be compromised.

Nollywood has the potential to become a global powerhouse in the entertainment industry, but only if producers and directors are willing to invest in improving the quality of their work. The call-out from a high-profile personality like Rudeboy is a wake-up call for filmmakers to be more meticulous and ensure that their content meets acceptable standards before release.

The question is, will Nollywood take the criticism constructively and make changes, or will it continue to be plagued by mediocrity?
