Abia Angels Edge Closer to Super Six After Gritty Win Over Confluence Queens

Abia Angels Edge Closer to Super Six After Gritty Win Over Confluence Queens

Abia Angels head coach Adanna Nnah has expressed satisfaction after her team secured a vital 1-0 win over Confluence Queens on matchday 12 of the NWFL Premiership season.

The hard-fought victory came courtesy of Winner Onajite, whose decisive strike at the Prince Abubakar Audu University Stadium in Ayangba handed the visitors a crucial three points in the race for the Super Six playoffs.

Speaking after the match, Coach Nnah hailed her players’ commitment and determination, emphasizing that the goal of reaching the playoffs remains within reach.

“We are happy we got the desired result in Kogi,” she said.
“The journey towards the Super Six playoffs is still intact. As we continue the race with subsequent games ahead, it’s not yet Uhuru until we achieve our aim for the season.”

With the win, Abia Angels solidified their hold on fourth place in Group A, amassing 22 points from 12 games — and crucially keeping themselves within striking distance of a top-three finish.

✍️ Opinion: One Step Closer, But the Race Isn’t Over Yet

Coach Adanna Nnah’s post-match comments strike the perfect balance between celebration and caution. The win was timely, no doubt — a statement of intent from a side with growing confidence — but the real test lies in consistency.

The NWFL Premiership Super Six is unforgiving — only the best get there. For Abia Angels, this result puts them in a promising position, but with just a few games left, there’s no room for complacency.

Winner Onajite, living up to her name, delivered the goods — but now the rest of the squad must rise to match her match-winning mentality.

If Abia Angels can maintain this momentum, the Super Six dream is very much alive. But as Coach Nnah rightly noted, “It’s not yet Uhuru.”

Let’s see how they handle the pressure in the final stretch.
