NWFL Playoff Race Heats Up as Nasarawa Amazons, Abia Angels, Remo Stars Ladies Battle for Final Spots

NWFL Playoff Race Heats Up as Nasarawa Amazons, Abia Angels, Remo Stars Ladies Battle for Final Spots

The race for qualification in Group B of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has intensified, with Nasarawa Amazons, Abia Angels, and Remo Stars Ladies all fighting for the remaining two playoff spots with just two matches left in the regular season.

So far, FC Robo Queens are the only team in Group B to have secured qualification for the Super Six playoff tournament.

Nasarawa Amazons currently sit second on the table with 29 points from 16 matches, closely followed by Abia Angels on 27 points. Remo Stars Ladies remain in contention with 24 points, keeping the race wide open.

The Lafia-based Amazons will face Sunshine Queens and Robo Queens in their final fixtures, knowing that a win in their next game could seal qualification.

Abia Angels must secure maximum points from their remaining matches against Dannaz Ladies and Ahudiyannem Queens to guarantee a top-three finish.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars Ladies face a tougher path, with crucial games against Delta Queens and Dannaz Ladies as they attempt a late push into the playoff positions.

Only the top three teams from Group B will progress to the NWFL Super Six, where the league champion will ultimately be decided.

Opinion: A Defining Moment for Women’s Football Competitiveness

This tight playoff race is exactly what the NWFL needs—competition that keeps fans engaged until the very end.

For years, conversations around Nigerian women’s football have often focused on a few dominant teams. But this season’s Group B battle shows a shift, with multiple clubs still in contention deep into the campaign.

Nasarawa Amazons may have the advantage, but Abia Angels and Remo Stars Ladies have shown enough quality to turn the race around. That unpredictability is a sign of growth in the league.

More importantly, these high-stakes matches give players a platform to prove themselves under pressure—something that ultimately strengthens the national talent pool.

As the final games approach, this isn’t just about qualification—it’s about momentum, belief, and the continued rise of competitive women’s football in Nigeria.
