Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons Dominate NWFL Best XI After 2025/26 Season
Edo Queens and Nasarawa Amazons have emerged as the biggest winners in the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Best XI of the Season, with both clubs producing three players each in the prestigious selection.
The champions, Edo Queens, were rewarded for their outstanding campaign after securing their second league title in history, while Nasarawa Amazons also enjoyed strong representation among the league’s top performers.
Abia Angels contributed two players to the Best XI, while Rivers Angels, FC Robo Queens, and Bayelsa Queens had one player each included in the final selection.
Edo Queens coach Moses Aduku was also recognised for his remarkable achievement after being named Manager of the Season.
The Benin City-based club’s title triumph has now earned them the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in August.
Opinion: The dominance of Edo Queens and Nasarawa Amazons in the Best XI reflects the growing competitiveness of women’s football in Nigeria. Success is no longer built around individual brilliance alone, but around strong team structures, quality coaching, and consistent performances throughout the season.
For Edo Queens, the next challenge will be proving that their domestic success can translate to continental competition. Their WAFU B Champions League campaign will provide a major test of how far Nigerian women’s football has developed on the regional stage.
