Remo Stars Ladies Lead as NWFL Unveils Best XI for 2025/26 First Stanza

The Nigeria Women Football League has unveiled its Best XI for the first stanza of the 2025/26 season, highlighting the standout performers across the league.

Remo Stars Ladies dominated the selection with three players—Eberechukwu Eleka, Hannafi Ibrahim and Nkiruka Obioma—earning spots in the elite lineup following their impressive performances in the first half of the campaign.

Rivers Angels also secured two places in the team with Abasiofon Uwah and Ramatalahi Kareem. Both players have been in fine form in front of goal, combining for 12 goals so far this season. Uwah currently leads the league’s scoring chart with seven goals at the end of the first round.

Players from Bayelsa Queens—Kindness Ifeanyi and Blessing Ilivieda—also made the list after their strong displays.

Other players named in the Best XI include Atume Doosur of Edo Queens, Winner David of Abia Angels, and Ayatsea Hembafan from Nasarawa Amazons.

Meanwhile, Tosan Blankson, head coach of Rivers Angels, was named Manager of the Round for his tactical influence and the team’s impressive run during the first half of the season.

Opinion: A Growing Platform for Women’s Football

The announcement of the NWFL Best XI highlights the growing competitiveness and talent within Nigeria’s women’s football. Clubs like Remo Stars Ladies and Rivers Angels continue to raise the standard of the league with consistent performances and emerging stars.

More importantly, recognitions like these help shine a spotlight on players who often work hard without receiving the same level of attention as their male counterparts. If the league continues to promote and celebrate its top performers, the NWFL could become an even stronger platform for developing players capable of representing Nigeria on the international stage.
