"Na Robbery Dem Take Welcome Me" – Actor Adeniyi Johnson Recounts Narrow Escape from Robbery in Lagos
Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson has taken to social media to share a chilling account of how he narrowly escaped a robbery attack in Lagos shortly after returning from abroad. According to the actor, the incident, which happened around 11 p.m., could have turned tragic if not for his quick thinking and alertness.
“Got back to the country — I mean my country — and na robbery dem take welcome me,” he lamented in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
Adeniyi, who is known for his vibrant roles on screen, shared a video of his damaged vehicle, showing where the robbers had tried to smash his windshield and yank off his side mirrors. The attack took place along Alapere, just after descending from the Third Mainland Bridge, as he was trying to navigate a jam caused by two errant trailers emitting thick smoke.
“It all happened within 15 seconds. I heard a big bang on my windshield… three thugs all over my car… I could hear one saying ‘yo mirror e!’ and another saying ‘fo glass e!’”
Opinion: Lagos, This is Not the Welcome We Deserve
Adeniyi's story is more than a celebrity experience — it’s a mirror of a growing security concern in Lagos, especially at night. From erratic truck drivers to emboldened street robbers, the average Lagos road user lives on constant edge.
It’s especially concerning that this isn’t the first time Adeniyi has faced such an ordeal — the first incident was just in April, around 7:15 p.m. How many more stories go unshared because the victims are not famous?
The actor’s experience is a wake-up call — our roads are not safe, and neither are our nights.
Security Beyond Stop & Search
Adeniyi rightly called out the current ineffective “stop and search” operations, which often focus more on harassing innocent motorists than preventing actual crimes.
“Lagos needs better security than those stop and search that ask, ‘Oga, how weekend, anything for us?’”
It’s time for the Lagos State Government and Police Command to re-evaluate their strategies, especially around high-risk routes like the Third Mainland Bridge and Alapere axis.
Gratitude Amid Chaos
Despite the fear and damage, Adeniyi remains grateful.
“God is God… This could have been worse.”
