Peter Okoye Accused of Misleading EFCC in High-Profile Fraud Case Involving Brother Jude Okoye

Peter Okoye Accused of Misleading EFCC in High-Profile Fraud Case Involving Brother Jude Okoye

In a dramatic turn in the ongoing fraud case between Nigerian music star Peter Okoye of P-Square and his former manager and brother, Jude Okoye, new allegations have surfaced accusing Peter of intentionally misleading the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with inconsistent and false statements.

Peter and his company, Northside Music Limited, face charges including the alleged dishonest conversion of $767,544.15. Peter pleaded not guilty, but during a tense cross-examination in Lagos High Court, his defense lawyer, Clement Onwuenwunor, SAN, fiercely challenged the credibility of Peter’s testimony.

Onwuenwunor accused Peter of fabricating details — notably, Peter’s claim of being a University of Abuja graduate was contradicted with evidence that he dropped out. The defense also revealed that both Peter and his twin brother Paul had signatory access to Northside Entertainment’s accounts, countering Peter’s earlier claim that Jude alone handled finances.

Further evidence showed Peter had personally withdrawn large sums from the company’s accounts and received multiple direct transfers from Jude, undermining his earlier assertion of having no financial benefit from the company’s dealings.

On the matter of royalties, Peter had testified to receiving only modest payments and claimed ignorance of the contract with Mad Solutions. However, defense documents revealed all three brothers signed the agreement and detailed Peter’s actual royalty payments, which were lower than he claimed.

The defense lawyer asserted,

“Peter’s testimony before the EFCC is riddled with lies and misrepresentations… This is an intentional effort to mislead investigators and this honourable court.”

Justice Rahman Oshodi admitted key documents into evidence and adjourned the trial to October 10 and 17, 2025, emphasizing the importance of sharing documents promptly to expedite proceedings.

💬 Opinion: When Family Business Gets Messy

This case is a stark reminder of how high-profile family disputes can quickly escalate, spilling into public and legal arenas. For fans and followers of P-Square, it’s disheartening to witness such conflict overshadowing the musical legacy the brothers built together.

The defense’s revelations challenge Peter’s public narrative and raise questions about transparency and accountability within the family business. It also serves as a cautionary tale for artists and entrepreneurs alike — clear documentation and honest communication are vital, especially when mixing family with business.

As the trial unfolds, it’s crucial for justice to prevail fairly, without bias toward fame or fortune. Beyond the headlines, this is about truth, responsibility, and setting a precedent that no one is above the law — even beloved music stars.
