Victony Shares How 2021 Car Accident Changed His Parents’ View on His Music Career

Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has opened up about how a life-altering experience changed not just his life—but also his parents’ stance on his music career.

In a heartfelt interview on the Behind The Prestige podcast, Victony revealed that his parents were never truly in support of his musical ambitions at the beginning. Like many Nigerian families, they hoped he would complete his education and become an engineer—a “safe” and traditional path.

“My parents were not cool with me doing music from the jump,” he said.
“They didn’t tell me to stop, but they weren’t 100% supportive of it.”

However, everything changed following the tragic car accident in April 2021, which claimed a life and left Victony and others severely injured. During that difficult period, an outpouring of love and support from fans on social media shifted his parents' perspective.

“When I had my accident in 2021 and they saw how much impact I had on people... they realised my music career meant a lot to me and just let me do what I wanted.”

💡 Opinion: When Pain Unlocks Purpose

Victony’s story is more than just a tale of tragedy and recovery. It’s a moving reminder that sometimes it takes crisis for purpose to be seen clearly—especially by those closest to us.

In many African households, creative dreams are often met with hesitation, not because of malice, but because of fear: fear of instability, uncertainty, and societal expectations. Victony’s accident, while heartbreaking, revealed the undeniable power of his music, making it impossible for his parents to ignore the calling he was born with.

🔥 From Survivor to Superstar

Since the accident, Victony has undergone four surgeries, yet emerged stronger—musically and emotionally. His breakout collaboration with Mayorkun on Holy Father was just the beginning. He is now signed to Mainland Block Party, founded by music executive Tobi Mohammed, and is one of Nigeria’s most promising young stars.

🎤 Final Thought: Victony Is Living Proof That Passion Can Survive Anything

For every young creative struggling with parental approval or societal pressure, Victony's journey offers hope: when you stay true to your art, even pain can become purpose. And sometimes, it takes a defining moment to make your loved ones see what you’ve known all along—that you were made for this.

We celebrate Victony not just for his music, but for his resilience, his honesty, and his inspiring rise from tragedy.
