“We Protect Our Own”: Iyabo Ojo Slams Tanzanian Activist Over Daughter’s Wedding Backlash

“We Protect Our Own”: Iyabo Ojo Slams Tanzanian Activist Over Daughter’s Wedding Backlash

The digital atmosphere grew tense as Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo fiercely defended her daughter Priscilla Ojo and son-in-law Juma Jux, clapping back at Tanzanian activist and media figure Mange Kimambi for branding their wedding posts “stupid” and “irrelevant.”

Kimambi, who had earlier accused the couple of distracting Tanzanians from the ongoing political unrest and nationwide calls for electoral reform, suggested that their celebratory content was out of touch. She demanded they stay off social media during the country's tense political moment.

But Iyabo Ojo wasn’t having it. In a strongly-worded Instagram post, she made it crystal clear: no one attacks her family and goes unchecked.

“@mangekimambi80… Keep my daughter out of your affairs. She’ll post what she likes, when she likes, and how she likes,” the actress said.

She also cleared the air about the wedding logistics, emphasizing it was a private cultural celebration funded by the bride’s family, not an extravagant show funded by state resources.

Opinion: Family First, Always

While Mange Kimambi’s frustration with her country’s situation is understandable — political activism often requires laser focus — her approach in dragging a young couple celebrating their union was, frankly, misplaced.

Marriage is not a political statement — it’s a personal milestone. To weaponize joy, especially a woman’s joy, under the guise of activism, leans dangerously into performative control.

Iyabo Ojo’s clapback was not only timely, but also a powerful message: celebrating love does not invalidate a nation’s pain. And policing others isn’t activism — it’s ego.

Priscilla and Juma are not the enemies of Tanzanian democracy. They are just a couple in love. Let’s keep the fight where it belongs: on unjust systems, not innocent celebrations.
