MC Oluomo Begs Tinubu, Aviation Authorities to Forgive K1 De Ultimate Over Flight Ban
The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has publicly appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and aviation authorities to lift the six-month no-fly ban placed on Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate.
The plea follows a viral incident involving K1 and some airline officials at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, the altercation reportedly began after the musician brought alcohol on board — an act prohibited on domestic flights — and was confronted by a flight attendant.
In the wake of the clash, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, imposed a six-month ban on the music legend and the pilot, Oluranti Ogoyi, pending further investigations.
In a heartfelt Instagram statement, MC Oluomo urged President Tinubu, NCAA Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo, and the Minister of Aviation to “temper justice with mercy.”
“Like a prodigal son, K1 has acknowledged his mistakes, is sincerely apologetic, and is willing to make amends,” MC Oluomo wrote.
Opinion:
This incident has stirred a familiar conversation about celebrity conduct, public accountability, and second chances. While rules exist for the safety and orderliness of air travel, the human side of justice sometimes calls for compassion — especially when remorse is shown.
K1 De Ultimate is more than just a Fuji legend; he’s a cultural icon whose music has been part of Nigeria’s soul for decades. However, fame does not place anyone above the law, and this episode is a reminder that respect for regulations is non-negotiable, no matter one’s status.
If the authorities decide to lift the ban, it should not be seen as an erasure of wrongdoing but as a recognition of accountability, repentance, and the value of reconciliation. In the end, a second chance — coupled with a firm reminder of the rules — might serve as a stronger lesson than punishment alone.
