K1 De Ultimate Apologises Over Airport Altercation, Sets the Record Straight

Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as K1 De Ultimate, has publicly apologised following an altercation with ValueJet crew at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.

The legendary singer, whose career has spanned over five decades, released a personally signed statement on Friday, describing the incident as “unfortunate” and clarifying the circumstances that led to it.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me,” K1 explained. He stressed that contrary to speculations, the flask in question contained only water — not alcohol.

According to him, the flask was empty during two security checks and was only filled with water at the airport lounge before he proceeded to the tarmac. “I had not yet boarded the aircraft, let alone being deboarded,” he added, dismissing reports that painted a different picture.

In a gesture of humility, K1 apologised to the Presidency, the Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, ValueJet, and Nigerians at large.

“I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols,” he said. “My unwavering patriotism and loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria have never been in doubt. I would never do anything to tarnish the image I’ve built over the past five decades.”

Opinion:
Incidents like this often spiral faster in public perception than in reality. In today’s world of instant headlines and social media outrage, a celebrity can be tried and judged in the court of public opinion long before facts surface. While K1’s explanation may not erase the initial drama, it’s a reminder that public figures, no matter how iconic, are still human — complete with health challenges, misunderstandings, and moments of misjudgment.

The real takeaway here is in his willingness to own the situation and apologise, even if he insists he was misunderstood. For a man whose name carries decades of cultural weight in Nigerian music, this act of humility might help restore the respect some feared was dented. After all, legacies are not only built on talent, but also on how one handles the storms along the way.
