Osimhen Edges Onuachu as Turkey’s Most Dangerous Striker, Says Tekelioğlu

Osimhen Edges Onuachu as Turkey’s Most Dangerous Striker, Says Tekelioğlu

Former Trabzonspor coach, Sadi Tekelioğlu, has sparked debate ahead of this weekend’s clash with Galatasaray, declaring Victor Osimhen the most dangerous attacking force in the Turkish Süper Lig—ranking him above fellow Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s encounter at Papara Park, Tekelioğlu suggested that Osimhen’s absence would significantly favour Trabzonspor, while insisting that Galatasaray would cope comfortably without Onuachu.

“Osimhen’s absence is a big advantage for Trabzonspor, but I can’t say the same for Galatasaray regarding Onuachu’s absence; they will fill that gap,” he said.

The veteran coach went further to underline Osimhen’s influence, claiming there is currently no player in Turkey who poses a greater threat.

“I don’t think Onuachu will affect Trabzonspor as much as Osimhen affected Galatasaray. Galatasaray is much more important for Osimhen. There’s no more dangerous player than Osimhen in Turkey right now.”

Both players remain key figures for the Nigeria national team, but their club performances this season tell slightly different stories. While Osimhen has netted 12 goals for Galatasaray, Onuachu has been more prolific in front of goal, scoring 21 times for Trabzonspor.

Opinion: Impact Over Numbers—Why Osimhen Gets the Nod

Tekelioğlu’s statement might raise eyebrows, especially when you look at the numbers. Onuachu, with 21 goals, is clearly having a more productive season statistically. But football, as always, goes beyond goals.

Osimhen’s edge lies in his overall influence—his pace, pressing, movement, and ability to disrupt defensive structures. He doesn’t just score; he destabilizes entire backlines. That kind of presence often creates opportunities for teammates and changes how opponents approach the game.

Onuachu, on the other hand, is a classic finisher—clinical, aerially dominant, and reliable in the box. But his style is more system-dependent. If the service isn’t right, his impact can be limited.

So while Onuachu may be winning the numbers game, Osimhen appears to be winning the fear factor—and in high-stakes matches, that psychological edge can be just as decisive as goals.

In truth, both players are excelling in their own roles, and their performances are a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence in European football. But for now, if defenders in Turkey had to pick one striker they’d rather avoid, Tekelioğlu’s view suggests most would choose not to face Osimhen.
